Five Behshahr workers on hunger strike are in critical condition
3 June 2003

According to the information received by the Worker-communist Party of Iran (WPI), textile workers in Behshahr continue their hunger strike for unpaid wages. As a result of the hunger strike, five of the workers are in critical condition and the rest are extremely weak.

According to the WPI, the Islamic regime of Iran's forces have surrounded the factory and are preventing other workers from joining the hunger strikers. Security forces have assaulted families who have tried to contact the strikers. Despite the militarization of the city by the Islamic regime, the people of Behshahr continue to openly support the strikers.

The Worker-communist Party of Iran reiterates it call for parties, organisations, unions and individuals to unequivocally defend the workers in Behshahr and Iran.
