Koorosh Modaresi is elected
Concluding communiqué of the 17th plenum
of the Central Committee of the Worker-communist Party of Iran
The 17th plenum of the Central Committee of the Worker-communist Party of Iran was held during 1-2 March 2003 with the participation of 29 Central Committee members, 27 advisors and a delegation from the Central Committee of the Worker Communist Party of Iraq.
The plenum began its work with a minute of silence in the memory of Comrade Mansoor Hekmat and all those who had fallen in the path of socialism. The silence was broken with the International anthem. The first item of the agenda was a report of the Party's activities and an assessment of its current state. In addition to written reports presented to the plenum by various organs of the Party, Koorosh Modaresi, the then Chair of the Political Bureau and Hamid Taghvaie, the then Chair of the Central Committee gave speeches on the issue. Both speakers referred to and emphasised the visible progress and the advances made by the Party and its social influence and its effects on the movement for the overthrow of the regime despite the difficulties faced with the loss of Comrade Mansoor Hekmat. The plenum then discussed and debated various social and political issues including on organising the revolution and gaining political power. Following this, Hamid Taghvaie presented a speech entitled 'Current developments in Iran and the prospects of gaining political power.' He analysed the characteristics of the movement for the overthrow of the regime and the role of the Party in leading it to victory.
The next item on the agenda was the Party's leadership organs. Following a debate and discussions, the leadership plan adopted by the 10th plenum of the Central Committee was re-affirmed. Koorosh Modaresi was elected Chair of the Central Committee (Leader). Also the following 19 were elected to the Political Bureau of the Party: Mina Ahadi, Fateh Bahrami, Shahla Daneshfar, Abdullah Darabi, Iraj Farzad, Asad Golchini, Majid Hosseini, Rahman Hoseinzadeh, Ali Javadi, Asqar Karimi, Azar Majedi, Azar Modaresi, Hossein Moradbeigi, and Maryam Namazie, Mustapha Saber, Saleh Sardari, Soraya Shahabi, Fateh Sheikh and Hamid Taghvaie.
In the first meeting of the Political Bureau, which immediately followed the plenum, Hamid Taghvaie was unanimously elected its Chair. The Political Bureau asked the Chair of the Central Committee to chose an Executive Committee and introduce them to the Political Bureau within two weeks. The plenum ended with the International anthem and shouts of 'Long Live Mansoor Hekmat', 'Long Live Socialism' and 'Long Live the Worker-communist Party.'
